day 297: fourth interview

I think it was the best one yet. Hooray and more hoorays! Even better is the weekend after a long week of go go and go. A is painting, boom is sleeping, and I am sitting. With chicken nuggets and cupcakes in our bellies, life is good (and gluten-free.) For once I’m finished with lab and quiz study, so it’s a good time to be alive.

But isn’t every moment a good time to be alive? It can be; the power to make it so lies in each of us.

I can’t say it better than he does:

The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.
That is real freedom.
That is being taught how to think.
The alternative is unconsciousness, the default setting, the “rat race” — the constant, gnawing sense of having had and lost some infinite thing.
David Foster Wallace
